Started in 1997 by designer Takahiro Miyashita, Number (N)ine has always been a hit in Japan, with a devoted fan base remaining to this day. The brand drew from two deep wells of inspiration close to Miyashita’s heart: music and Americana. The name itself is derived from "Revolution 9," The Beatles song off their self-titled 1968 “white album“. Frequent references to Kurt Cobain, The Beatles, and various other musical artists allowed this brand to be in a unique creative position in fashion, one that has not yet been seen in this form. Americana and grunge themes always find their way into the collections, but the more you look into the brand, the more you appreciate the subtle details and the beauty of the garment itself alongside all the sophisticated references.
