FW19 High-Waisted Pleated Trousers in Grey Wool

Dior Men's Fall/Winter 2019 featured Kim Jones' collaboration with cult American artist Raymond Pettibon, whose punk era drawings from his Black Flag and Sonic Youth days appeared as prints, hand embroideries, knits, and jacquards throughout the collection. The palette was archetypal Dior: palest blue, mauve bisque, pearlized grays, midnight blue, and black, applied to austere tailoring, tactical vests hand embroidered with Pettibon's owl motifs, and double breasted overcoats with horizontal drapery that evoked a space aged elegance. Standout pieces included a spray painted leopard print dubbed "punk panthère" (referencing Dior's 1947 panther print), knitwear made with a new moiré like technique, lace cut into body hugging sweaters, and a final look featuring an elaborate hand beaded Pettibon riff on the Mona Lisa.

Materials merged luxury with practicality as nylon mimicked silk's lustrous surface while cashmere and furs combined with technical fabrics. Accessories included Yoon Ahn's charm jewelry with the CD emblem reimagined as safety pins, saddle bags executed in nylon or leopard patterned mink, and Matthew Williams' ALYX rollercoaster buckles that continued Jones' exploration of utilitarian luxury.
