This Bomber Jacket was part of the last Collection of CK by Raf Simons, Spring Summer 19. The collection was influenced by the ideas of the predator, rebellion, and the tension between different worlds and different environments. One of the collections highlights, were not only the JAWS inspired themes, but also the collaborations with American Universities which brought two of the coolest college jackets of Raf’s career.
The Yale Bomber is one of our favorite Designer College Jackets from recent years & is hardly ever seen due to the very limited production. It has a more classic college style cut with a boxy body and normal length, in contrast to the super oversized Berkeley Bomber from the same collection.
The Jacket features symbols and logos from the Iconic Yale University, with a hugely written “YALE“ Appliqué on the back and the Universitie’s crest embroidered on the front. The Calvin Klein 205 logo & Yale’: founding year 1701 are embroidered on the chalk colored leather sleeves.
Raf also partnered with isolation experts Thermore for the padding of some of the Outerwear pieces from his CK205 collections, which makes this Jacket also suitable cold er conditions.
The SS19 collection from Calvin Klein 205W39NYC was something very special, meanwhile very sad as it was Raf's Goodbye to Calvin Klein after more than 2 years of collaborative work. The whole show was a tribute to american cinema with the movies „Jaws“ and „The Graduate“ being the main inspiration.
Simons called them “very important movies in my memory.” Explaining his attraction, he said “Disasters happen but they turn again into beauty, and beauty is around us and it can oftentimes turn into disaster.”
The references to the movie Jaws were quite literal with the iconic Artwork being used throughout the collection, printed on denim pieces, t-shirts, hoodies and knitwear, it became one of our favorite collection from the brand.
